Loyd B. (Rob) Roberson II was born in Greenville, Mississippi, in 1968 to Patricia and Loyd Roberson, and shortly afterwards, they moved to Starkville, MS.
Rob graduated from Starkville High School in 1987 and then enrolled in Mississippi State University. While attending Mississippi State, Rob worked at Piggly Wiggly and later at Sullivan’s Office Supply. Rob graduated from Mississippi State in 1991, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. Rob was the first of his family’s generation to receive a four year bachelor’s degree.
He served in the US Air National Guard (1987-1993) and credits this as a crucial part of his education because he used the G. V. Sonny Montgomery G.I. Bill to help defray his school tuition. While in the US Air National Guard, Rob was awarded “Airman of the Month” for his quick thinking in saving an individual’s life.
Rob married his college sweetheart the former Karen Shurden in 1991. Karen earned a degree in Physical Therapy and is the owner of the Children’s Spot Physical Therapy Clinic located in Starkville. Rob and Karen have four beautiful children whose names are Kelly, Marley, Jack, and Eli. With the support of his family, Rob later graduated from Mississippi College School of Law with a Juris Doctorate in 2003. He returned to Starkville and began his private practice after graduation.
Rob has served his community and state on several levels, from serving on the Starkville Board of Aldermen to the Mississippi House of Representatives (1998-2003, 2016-Present). While serving in the Mississippi House of Representatives, he co-authored a bill giving Mississippi veterans access to the “Purple Heart Car Tag.” This Bill established the Purple Heart car tag at no cost to the veteran, for those Mississippi veterans who wish to obtain one. This cause is very near and dear to his heart since his father earned both a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart for his service to his country during the Vietnam War.
Rob currently serves as House Education Committee Chairman and also serves on the Committees of Appropriations A, Appropriations E, County Affairs, Judiciary A, Management, Medicaid, Municipalities, Transportation, Universities and Colleges, and Youth and Family Affairs.
Rob’s professional memberships and appointments include: Appointment to the State Psychology Board by Former Gov. Haley Barbour, served as President of the Oktibbeha County Bar Association, and a member of the Mississippi Bar Association. He has also Formerly served as the Oktibbeha County Republican Party Chairman and currently serves as the Board Attorney for Oktibbeha County.
Rob’s most important positions to date have been to be both father to his four children and husband to his loving, supportive wife.
I believe educators should have greater input on how they educate their students. As District 43’s representative I will fight to remove barriers to education and provide financial support that will help our school districts thrive.

I believe a family has the right to protection against anyone who would choose to harm them. I am also a strong advocate for our hunting and fishing rights. As your District 43 representative I will ensure these rights are preserved.
